Blackberry requirements
You are responsible for purchasing your own Blackberry. Do not purchase the device until you have been approved for participation in the program.
Open a Northstar ticket to obtain approval. Be sure the ticket includes the facts that you meet the criteria of (1) being in North America, (2) are in Sales and having Director approval (approval must be attached to the ticket) and (3) prepared to migrate any PeopleSoft paid cell phone service to the Blackberry device. Tickets not meeting this criteria may be closed.
If approved, you will be directed to PeopleSoft's premier AT&T website to purchase the device and service. Your license (to the Blackberry server) will be granted at that time. Processing time, including cell phone number migration, can take 7-10 days.
You can use your own device, but the service must be converted to PeoplesSoft's corporate plan with AT&T. Approval is needed for participation in the program. Open a Northstar ticket to obtain approval and if approved, you will receive further instruction on acquiring service for your device. Your license (to the Blackberry server) will be granted at that time.
Access to Lotus Notes email and calendar via the Blackberry Enterprise Server is limited to approved participants of the PeopleSoft Blackberry program. Due to limited licensing, at this time Blackberry access will be granted to users in the sales force only.
To be eligible for participation in the Blackberry program:
- The employee must be in Sales.
- The employee must be in North America.
- The employee have Director's approval.
- The employee must be prepared to migrate any PeopleSoft paid cell phone service to the Blackberry.
- There must be open licenses available.
Open a NorthStar ticket to obtain authorization and ensure that there is licensing available on the BlackBerry server. The Director's approval must be attached to the request ticket.
Blackberry is both voice (cell phone) and data (wireless email). Both services are paid for by user's business unit (department). The device is purchased by the employee.
Approved BlackBerry users may combine their AT&T cell phone service with the BlackBerry program. If you are not part of the AT&T cellular plan, you must cancel your existing cellular plan and join the AT&T plan to be able to combine with the BlackBerry program. You may migrate your existing cell phone number to the Blackberry device.
No. Your existing PeopleSoft paid cellular service must be transferred to the Blackberry device. You will get a text message on your Blackberry device when the transfer is effective.
Support for the Blackberry should primarily be handled through your vendor — AT&T. PeopleSoft's official support for the device is limited to issues relating to connecting to the Blackberry Enterprise Server and Lotus Notes (email, calendar, address book and task/ToDos). Customization of the Desktop Manager software or the BlackBerry device is not supported. Loading or troubleshooting third party applications on any device is not supported.
U.S based PeopleSoft employees who obtain a BlackBerry account must comply with PeopleSoft’s Information Systems Acceptable Use Policy
Use of approved BlackBerry services are for the conduct of PeopleSoft business as it relates to the employee’s job function.
Applicable local and state laws concerning the use of cell phones while operating a motor vehicle should always be reviewed and adhered to.
