General guidelines for ordering computer hardware and peripherals.
This document outlines the various methods of ordering computers, computer hardware, and computer peripherals. At the end of the document will be a list of items you may wish to order with links to the documents that explain the ordering process in more detail. Click here to go directly to the list. The process will differ depending upon whether the item is standard or non-standard, and whether it is a replacement or additional (spare or extra). Some equipment requires only manager approval. Other equipment may require a more involved approval process. Qualifying for an additional hard disk or additional RAM for an existing machine is dependent on the type of machine you are using and the type of work that you must do on the machine. Any such hardware upgrades must also go through an approval process.
All ordering methods are subject to managerial approval. I f you are an employee who is based in the United States, see the Eureka! document on accessing the Peripherals Ordering website to order these items. (The website is not yet available for use by employees based outside the U.S.)
If you are not based in the U.S., you can order standard and stock items through NorthStar Web. Commonly ordered items that have already been researched and approved for use are obtained by purchase requisition. See Eureka! document 17202 — How to Enter a New Requisition using ePro for more information about purchase requisitions. Standard items are those that have been approved for mass purchase and issuance such as specified laptop or desktop machines, mouse, network and dial-up connections, modem tester, lock kit, and backpack. Anything else, including the CD-ROM for the Portege, is considered an "extra" that must be specifically requested by your manager.
If the item is standard equipment it will be fully supported. Nonstandard items that have been tested and approved will receive limited support. All other equipment is unsupported.
