How to order a Y-splitter

Document number: 75090

A PS/2 port splitter (or "Y-splitter") is used to allow more than one device (usually a keyboard and an external mouse) to be plugged into the PS/2 (round) port (the round one on your computer). The port looks like this:   . Note: Desktop computers come with 2 PS/2 ports standard.

If you have a Palm device that you need to connect to your laptop computer, you can order the splitter so that you can free up your serial port for use with the Palm. Your department will be charged for the splitter.

If you are an employee who is based in the United States, see the Eureka! document on accessing the Peripherals Ordering website to order this item. (The website is not yet available for use by employees based outside the U.S.)

If you are not based in the U.S., you can order the splitter through NorthStar. You may also purchase a splitter yourself, but some models do not work properly with the PeopleSoft standard laptop computers and cannot be supported. Before ordering please review Eureka! document 39067 — PS/2 Y splitter doesn't work.

Follow these steps to order the splitter via NorthStar:

  1. Launch NorthStar and log in, if necessary. For more information about launching NorthStar, see Eureka! document 70001 — How to create a ticket in NorthStar.

  2. On the left side of the screen, click on the Log Service Ticket link.

  3. On the contact screen, make sure the information is current and indicate how you would like to be contacted if there are any questions (the default is by phone, based on your internal phone number in the PeoplePeople Directory.)

  4. Click Next.

  5. Choose Workstation and click on Next.

  6. Click on Add a Peripheral to Existing Hardware and click Next.

  7. In the drop-down list next to What type of hardware peripheral do you need? choose Y-Splitter (PS2).

  8. Fill in the other required information on this page (required fields are labeled in red text) and click Next.

  9. From the Current Asset Number drop-down list, choose the machine for which the peripheral is being ordered.

  10. Fill in any other information you deem necessary in the Special Requirements field.

  11. Click Finish.

You will be contacted when the equipment is ready for pickup.
