How to return computer equipment

Document number: 75088

Remember: If a PeopleSoft employee or contractor leaves the company, the responsible manager must return the employee's machine and accompanying peripherals (monitor, keyboard, etc.) to the appropriate office. The return should be made immediately after conducting an exit interview with the departing employee. The machine will be returned to inventory. It should NOT be "transferred" to another employee's name, or used by another person.

Bring the equipment to your local Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) office (corporate employees) or Regional Field Operations office (regional employees). They will then log a NorthStar ticket showing receipt of the equipment.

Generally, this office does not take "drop-ins". There is an exception for Company Property Returns, however. Please make sure a technician is available to take the equipment. The equipment should be brought during business hours to:

IMS - Headquarters Building B
4480 Hacienda Blvd
1 st Floor Suite B103 (near the Diablo Cafe)
Pleasanton CA 94588

If you are unable to carry the equipment, please open an additional ticket to request Facilities to come and pick up the equipment. Follow these steps:

  1. Launch NorthStar and log in, if necessary. For more information about launching NorthStar, see Eureka! document 70001 — How to create a ticket in NorthStar.

  2. On the left side of the screen, click on the Log Service Ticket link.

  3. On the contact screen, make sure the information is current and indicate how you would like to be contacted if there are any questions (the default is by phone, based on your internal phone number in the PeoplePeople Directory.)

  4. Click Next.

  5. Choose Workstation and click Next.

  6. Choose Request Hardware Pickup and click Next.

  7. Provide the requested information, including a Subject. Specify the physical location of the equipment in the Description field.

  8. Click Finish.

Facilities should come and pick up the equipment.

Note: Any damage to or missing parts from the asset will be charged back to your department. Please discuss the condition of the asset when you turn it in and have it documented in the NorthStar ticket.

Regional office employees

If you are based out of a regional office, please call your regional FieldOps office for assistance. To find regional FieldOps office locations, click here to go to the Offices Worldwide page on Planet PeopleSoft (to see this link, you may have to log into Planet first. For more information, see Eureka! document 15270 — How to log on to Planet PeopleSoft).

When you return the asset, that office will open an appropriate NorthStar Ticket.

If you are in the field, you may send the machine via insured carrier, such as FedEx, to your nearest FieldOps office. Please contact that office before sending the machine so that may expect it. Please be sure to wrap the computer securely and safely. When sending the machine, please enclose information as to which office is your home office.

Note: Any damage to or missing parts from the asset will be charged back to your department. Please discuss the condition of the asset when you turn it in and have it documented in the NorthStar ticket.
