How to request port activation

Document number: 73002

To have a B port (data port, for your computer) activated, create a NorthStar Service Ticket. Follow these steps:

  1. Launch NorthStar and log in, if necessary. For more information about launching NorthStar, see Eureka! document 70001 — How to create a ticket in NorthStar.

  2. On the left side of the screen, click on the Log Service Ticket link.

  3. On the contact screen, make sure the information is current and indicate how you would like to be contacted if there are any questions.
    • If you wish to be contacted by phone and your phone number is incorrect on the screen or you are at different phone number, please be sure to specify the current phone number where you can be reached.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Choose Other Service Request and click Next.

  6. In the drop-down list next to "What type of problem are you having," choose Network.

  7. Fill in your Operating System information and the method of connectivity (Network/Ethernet, etc.)

  8. In the Subject field, enter B port activation.

  9. In the Description field, provide the following information to get the fastest response:
    • your site location and building.
    • your cubical or office number.
    • the 4 digit number on the plate covering your phone jack (generally the same as your office number).

Generally, the A port in every office is live once a person is officially assigned the office.

When you receive notice that your B port is operational, make sure you plug your machine into the port labeled "B", and not "V2".
