Taskbar disappears - turn Auto hide off

If "Auto hide" is set the taskbar shrinks up against the margin of the screen, only to magically reappear when the mouse pointer touches the edge of that screen. Or at least that is how it is supposed to work. Sometimes it works too slowly, sometimes it has just too small a "trigger" area. In both cases it will be hard to find your taskbar. Turning "Auto hide" off will leave your taskbar visible on the screen. To make sure "Auto hide" is off, do the following:

We can open the Start menu without knowing where it is. That will allow us to check that Auto hide is off.

1. Hold the { Ctrl} key and press { Esc}. The Start menu will pop out.

2. Select Settings, then Taskbar.

3. Select " Taskbar Options" tab.

4. Is there a check mark in the box next to " A uto hide"? If there is, turn it off by unchecking the box.

5. Click OK to close the Taskbar Properties window.

Turning "Auto hide" off should keep your taskbar in view. If your taskbar is still missing try the other steps described in document 69006 — How to find, move and modify the taskbar.
