Document number: 55143

Project/Department Share drives will be provided for those departments and/or projects that need share drives to share large amounts of data. Follow these steps to request a Project/Department share:

  1. Launch NorthStar.

  2. Click on Log Service Ticket link on the left side of the screen.

  3. Fill in your contact information and click Next.

  4. Click on the Other Service Request option and click Next.

  5. In the What type of problem are you having? field select Network.

  6. In the What operating system are you using? field select your machine's operating system from the drop-down list. It doesn't matter that there are machines with other Operating Systems that may be accessing the drive.

  7. In the How are you connecting? field select Network/Ethernet from the drop-down list. It doesn't matter that there are many methods that the group members will be connecting to the share.

  8. In the Subject field of the ticket enter Request for project/department share.

  9. In the Description field, paste in the following questions and type in your answers to them. The information is mandatory - the share will not be created if information is missing:
    • Use of the share (what sort of contents will be placed in the share)?
    • Project Number or Department Number for the share:
    • Who will act as the group's administrator / owner of this share?
    • Who is the project manager, or the requestor's manager?
    • Storage Space Requirements (in MB)?
      • Please be reasonable here - estimate the realistic amount of space that will be needed. The amount of space can be adjusted at a later date.
    • If replacing another share, what is the current path (\\server\path)?

  10. Click Finish.

You may be contacted for more information as well. Your request for a project/department share has been submitted and will be sent on to the appropriate group for processing:
