How to ping the PeopleSoft VPN server
To ping the PeopleSoft VPN server to verify your connectivity, follow these steps for the VPN client software you are using:
Dial into your ISP (do not RAS into the PeopleSoft network).
Open an MS-DOS prompt.
- Ping the Pleasanton server by typing in the following text: ping moat2.peoplesoft.com
- You should receive four responses including response times; this indicates the server is visible from your location.
If you receive four responses that read "...request timed out," the VPN server is inaccessible from your location. To determine if this is an issue with your connection, ping a public web site, such as Yahoo!, by typing ping www.yahoo.com and press Enter. If Yahoo! responds with "request timed out", there is an issue with your internet connection. Contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance.
- Ping the other PeopleSoft VPN servers. You should get a response from them as well. If your ping request times out, you probably cannot connect to that server:
- ping gracht.peoplesoft.com (Amsterdam)
- ping matilda.peoplesoft.com (Sydney)
Generally, you should connect to the server closest to you geographically.
