Often, if you are not connected to the network when you log onto the machine, you may receive numerous messages stating Cannot reach [ servername]. Do you want to dial a remote network? and a certain number of seconds is given on the No, do not dial button. Choose one of the links below:

 

Stop the messages from appearing for the current session
Stop the messages from ever appearing (until you reset them)

Current session

To stop the messages from appearing for the current machine session, follow these steps:

1. Click on the Settings>> button so that the screen is a little larger and the Dialing fr om: information appears at the bottom of the Dial-Up Networking screen. This also stops the timer.

2. Click on the box next to Disable auto-dial for this logon session near the bottom of the Dial-Up Networking screen.

3. Click on the No, do not dial button.

 

You will no longer receive these messages for this network session on your computer. Rebooting the machine starts a new session.

To stop the messages from appearing at all, click on your operating system below and follow the steps:

Windows NT 4

Windows NT 4

To discontinue receiving the message on your Windows NT 4.0  machine, follow these steps:

1. Select Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.

2. Double-click on the Devices icon to open it.

3. Scroll down to Remote Access Auto Connection Driver.

• The last portion of the name may be cut off such that you cannot read the word "Driver".

4. Click on Star tup.

5. For Startup Type select Disabled and click on OK.

• You may get a message that "Changing the Startup Type for the device may leave the system in an unusable state. Do you want to make the change?" Select Yes.

6. Click on Close to close the Devices menu.

7. Reboot your machine.

Once you have disabled the remote access auto connection feature and reboot, you should no longer get those messages.

Windows 2000

Generally, this message does not appear on Windows 2000 machines. If you are receiving the message, to discontinue the message, follow these steps:

1. Select Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.

2. Double-click on the Administrative Tools icon to open it.

3. Double-click on the Services icon.

4. In the right hand panel scroll down to Remote Access Auto Connection Manager.

• Be sure to choose the right entry - there are 2 entries that have very similar names.

5. Double-click the name to open it the entry.

6. For Startup typ e select Disabled and click on OK.

• You may get a message that "Changing the Startup Type for the device may leave the system in an unusable state. Do you want to make the change?" Select Yes.

7. Click on Close to close the Devices menu.

8. Close the Control Panel screen.

9. Reboot your machine.

Once you have disabled the remote access auto connection manager feature and reboot you should no longer get those messages.
