ERROR: Error 709: Error changing password on domain...may be too short...

Document number: 55070

Note: The legacy RAS (dial-up networking) and PeopleSoft RAS Connection Manager (also known as PSRC or PSRCM) are in the process of being retired. To standardize dial-up access, the integrated PeopleSoft company is deploying iPass and VPN as the dial-up solution. For more information, see Eureka! document 54040 — iPass Frequently Asked Questions.

If you are receiving the message Error 709: Error changing password on domain. The password may be too short or match a previously used password when trying to RAS into the PeopleSoft network and change your network password, make sure that you are not trying to use a previously used password and that the new password is at least 6 characters. If these are not the problem, try dialing up the network from the initial log on screen. Follow these steps:

  1. Reboot the machine.

  2. Make sure that your computer is properly connected to your phone line.

  3. On the logon screen (where you enter your network password), click in the small box that says Logon using Dial-Up Networking so that a checkmark appears.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Your machine should bring up the Dial-Up Networking screen for you to choose a RAS server.

  6. Log onto the PeopleSoft network via that RAS server.

You should be able to change your network password successfully.
