Note: The legacy RAS (dial-up networking) and PeopleSoft RAS Connection Manager (also known as PSRC or PSRCM) are in the process of being retired. RAS generates some of the highest costs for PeopleSoft. In an effort to control these costs, PS RAS Connection Manager was created. It is a utility that works together with the Microsoft Dial-Up Networking utility on your machine and "Focal" (local phone number) technology to help you choose a local phone number to RAS in, where possible. The use of local numbers keeps RAS costs down. If a Focal number is not available, a list of usable numbers appears for you.

PS RAS Connection Manager removes the long list of PeopleSoft standard numbers in your Dial-Up Networking settings and replaces it with a single PS Connection entry. Any personal connection numbers you created will remain on the list. When you change locations, provide that new information to PS RAS Connection Manager. PS RAS Connection Manager will then modify the PS Connection entry with a new local number based on your new location.

Dial-Up Networking is still the method of choice for RASing in, for full network authentication purposes. You only need to use PS RAS Connection Manager to choose and use a local number for the first time. As long as you don't change locations (and phone numbers), you can use the PS Connection entry in Dial-Up Networking. That entry looks like this:
