What are my high-speed access options?

Your high-speed options will vary based on what high-speed service options are available in your community. To use VPN with PeopleSoft, these options will require you have a token and that you can reach the Internet, which means you will need an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Cable Modem. You can contact your local cable service provider to check on availability and cost information for this type of service.
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL). You can contact your local telephone company for any DSL service options. In many communities, there are also private companies providing service; check the local business listing section of your phone book for Internet Service Providers. (Alternately, you can look web sites such as http://www.dslreports.com for service information, availability, customer comments on service, and other information for various DSL service providers. This site currently covers many service providers in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia.)
Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). ISDN is an older technology that involves using standard phone lines for a higher-speed connection. Most ISDN technologies are slower (64Kbps or 128Kbps, depending on the type of service), and the service costs can be very expensive in the United States. ISDN is more commonly used in Europe, and the related costs will vary by country or region. ISDN should only be considered as a last resort when Cable Modems or DSL is not available, and you want the marginally faster connection speed (as to a RAS connection). Be sure that your ISDN service is able to reach the internet. (ISDN service is offered in some areas without an ISP service, which is necessary to reach the internet.)
Satellite. Satellite internet service is available in some areas by a small number of vendors. The satellite service uses either two-way satellite communication, or satellite to download and uploads using regular phone lines (and limited to 56Kbps, in that case). Satellite service is a newer technology, which has shown some limitations with being able to use it with the PeopleSoft Virtual Private Networking (VPN) software, as well a higher cost in installation and ongoing service charges when compared to other options. If high-speed connectivity is not an option for your area, RAS is still an option for all PeopleSoft employees. Remember to use the PS RAS Connection Manager to choose a local number where one is available.
