Creating a new PIN using the Cisco VPN client software

Note: As of October 7, 2004, Cisco VPN Client version 4.0.4(D) is the standard supported version of VPN client software. If you are on an earlier version, please update your software as soon as possible. See Eureka! document 54102 — Upgrade or install Cisco VPN Client software. To find out what version of the Cisco VPN software you are running, see Eureka! document 55175 — How to tell what version of Cisco VPN software you are using.

You cannot use the steps below while connected to the PeopleSoft network in the office. If you want to set your PIN while in a PeopleSoft office, see Eureka! document 55147 — Set SecurID token PIN via the internet.

You can create a new PIN with the Cisco VPN client software using the steps below:

  1. Launch the Cisco VPN software by clicking on the Start menu, then Programs, then Cisco VPN, and finally, VPN Client.
    • If you launch VPN Dialer, you may still be on an older version of the Cisco VPN client software. Please upgrade to version 4.0.1.

  2. The Cisco Systems VPN Client screen appears. Click on the Connect button.

  3. Enter your username in lower case letters in the Username field (if it is not already in the field). Generally, your username should be the same as your network logon name.
    • Example: If your name is Stephanie Foster, enter sfoster.

  4. Type in the 6-digit number displayed on your VPN token in the Password field, and click OK. (The displayed number is your 'token code'.) The window will display the message, Enter a new PIN between 4 to 8 alphanumeric characters:

  5. Create a PIN that is between 4 and 8 characters long (you may use any combination of numbers or letters for your PIN), and click OK.

  6. The window will display the message PIN Accepted. Wait for the tokencode to change, then enter the new tokencode. When the number shown on your token changes, put in the new token code in the "Password" field, and click OK.

  7. The window will display the message Enter Username and Password. Enter both your PIN and token code shown on the token's display in the "Password" field, with no spaces between them, and click OK.
    • Example: If you created a PIN of " blue" and the 6-digit token code shown is 720725, you would enter blue720725 in the "Password" field.

  8. The connection will attempt a login and display the message Remote peer terminated connection. This message is normal; click OK.

  9. Click the Connect button again, and re-enter your PIN and token code shown on the token's display in the "Password" field, with no spaces, and click OK.

When you successfully connect, you will receive an authorization window ( Unauthorized access to this network device is prohibited...). Click Continue to access the PeopleSoft network using the Cisco VPN software.
