If you are experiencing a fuzzy or blurred image when using your IBM thinkpad T41 the problem is most likely an incorrect screen resolution.

Laptop screens are more limited in their screen resolution than a stand-alone monitor. Each laptop has an ideal screen resolution. For the Thinkpad T41 the screen resolution should be 1400 x 1050.  To select that resolution take the following steps:

Changing screen resolution settings on Windows 2000

1. Click the Start menu button and then select Settings, Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel window double-click the Display icon.

3. Select the Settings tab.

4. In the " Desktop area" box is a slider that moves between "Less" and "More." Write down the current settings in case you need to restore them.

5. Put the mouse pointer on the slider and hold down the left mouse button. Drag the mouse pointer left or right to select the resolution you want.

• Moving the slider toward "Less" will mean that things on your desktop will be bigger so less will fit on the desktop. Moving the slider toward "More" will mean that things on your desktop will be smaller so more will fit on the desktop.

• NOTE: If the slider bar will not move to the resolution you want it may be because either the video card or the monitor is not capable of displaying that resolution.

• Remember that settings that work well with one display unit (such as an external monitor) may not work well with another display unit.  If you have problems see document 39018 — How to troubleshoot monitor problems (Boot into VGA mode).

6. Click Apply.  A window will open allowing you to either test the new setting, or cancel the change. Select OK.

7. When the test screen goes away the message box will ask whether you want to keep the new settings.

8. If the test looked good to you select Yes otherwise select No. If the resolution did not change correctly, wait 15 seconds and Windows will restore the original resolution.

9. Click OK to exit the Display Properties.

Your screen resolution should now be changed as you have chosen.
