When you access a page with a script such as a Java applet or Javascript you may experience a number of different problems. You may get a message advising you that the applet exists but is not running. or one that looks like this : Exception: java.Lang.ClassNotfoundexception:SCMinstallerE4 The text of these messages will vary but most will start out with the reference to "java.Lang"

First make sure that you security settings are correct and applets enabled.

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. From the menu bar click on Tools.
3. Select Internet Options ...
4. Click on the Security tab,
5. Select Internet.
6. Click on Custom Level ...
7. Scroll down to Microsoft VM. Java permissions should be High security.
8. Scroll down to Scripting. All three entries Active scripting, Allow paste operations via script and Scripting of Java applets should be enabled.
9. Click on OK to save any changes. Then OK to close the window.

If the problem persists make sure your machine has the lastest Windows Service Pack. 69035 — How to find out what Windows Service Pack is loaded. If do not have the latest service pack see Eureka! document 69026 — Update Service Pack.

Install Microsoft Java Virtual Machine from the Software Library in Lotus Notes:

1. Close Internet Explorer.

2. Open Lotus Notes, then open the Software Library by clicking the bookmark link.

• You may need to look in your databases folder for the Software library bookmark .

• If you don't have the Software Library bookmark see document 16250 — How to add the Software Library database link to Lotus Notes for instructions on installing the Software library bookmark.

3. Click the Standard Software Package Installs icon.

4. Scroll until you see the entry Internet Explorer 5 Packages and double click on it to open it.

5. Scroll down to the button"Microsoft Virtual Machine"

6. Follow the instructions on the page to install the software. Be sure to install the correct software.

7. If you continue to have problems look for and remove Java 2 Runtime Environment

1. Select Start menu, then Settings, then Control Panel.

2. Click on Add/Remove Programs.

3. Click on the Change or Remove Programs icon on the left hand panel to open it.

4. Scroll down the list of programs.  If you see Java 2 Runtime Environment in the list click on the program name to highlight it.

5. Click on the Remove button and follow the prompts. Note: You may need to wait for a few minutes for WinINSTALL to launch into the uninstallation process, although it may appear that nothing is happening. When the process is complete, a message appears.
