Error: Parameter is incorrect

When attempting to use or install a computer peripheral such as mouse, CD-ROM, floppy drive, etc you may get the error message Parameter is incorrect this problem may occur when there is a problem with the drivers or ports.

Disconnect all external devices such as Jaz Drive, external CD-ROM, Floppy Disk, Palm Cradle, mouse (laptop only), external keyboard (laptop only), external monitor (laptop only) etc. Then reset the machine. If that resolves the problem but the problem returns when the devices are reattached then try some general troubleshooting steps for the particular piece of hardware that seems to be causing the problem.
