The Microsoft Excel error

most commonly occurs when you are trying to access an Excel file with an Essbase add-in, and you are missing an environment variable.

To resolve this error, you must make sure Essbase is in your path statement. The following instructions assume you are running Windows NT.

  1. Click on the My Computer icon on your desktop to select it.
  2. Next, right-click on the My Computer icon.
  3. Click on P roperties.
  4. Click on the Environment tab.
  5. If C:\apps\db\essbase\bin is not in your Path, add it in.
  6. After adding in the above to your path, click on the Set button, then click on OK.

You must reboot your machine after altering your path statement in order for the Essbase add-in to work in Microsoft Excel.

Once you have rebooted, when opening an Essbase file in Excel, you should no longer receive this error.

If you do not have the Essbase add-in installed, see the document 18096 — Installing the Essbase add-in to Microsoft Excel.

Adding Essbase into your path statement should resolve this error.
