ERROR: You do not have sufficient rights to edit preferences for this database

The Lotus Notes error message "You do not have sufficient rights to edit preferences for this database" may appear for a few reasons when trying to edit mail file preferences:

To resolve the error in the situations listed above, contact Technical Support Operations or open a NorthStar ticket so the issue can be escalated to a Notes Administrator for resolution. The user's access level or mail file owner should be noted.

To resolve the error in the situation above, switch to the Notes ID that is associated with the specific mail file. If the correct ID is being used, check the access level for the user on the mail file and mail file owner field. Then, contact Technical Support Operations or open a NorthStar ticket so the issue can be escalated to a Notes Administrator for resolution. Be sure to note that the correct ID is being used, the user's access level and mail file owner.

 

 

 

 


To check a user's access level on their mail file:

  1. Open the Lotus Notes mail file.

  2. Select F ile from the menu bar.

  3. Select D atabase from the drop down list and select A ccess Control... from the next drop down list.

  4. Single click on the user's name in the People, Servers, Groups: window.

The access level for the name highlighted will appear in the window to the right of A ccess: in the upper right hand corner.

To check the mail file owner:

  1. Open the Lotus Notes mail file.

  2. Click the Tools button to the left of the Over Quota? button and select Preferences from the drop down list.

  3. Basics tab:

    • This mail file belongs to: The user's hierarchical name (Firstname Lastname/PeopleSoft or Firstname Lastname/Consultant/PeopleSoft) should appear in this field.

    The Mail file owner must match the ID and Location document the user is using at the time.

  4. Click the OK button to close the Preferences window.

If a name other than the user's appears in the window, the error message will appear when trying to edit it. Contact Technical Support Operations or log a NorthStar ticket so the correct name can be added to this field.
