ERROR: Unable to load frame's contents

Document number: 26049

The Lotus Notes error message "Unable to load frame's contents" when the Welcome Page is attempting to load is typically received when the mail file has been removed from the workspace or the bookmark link has become corrupt.  The error will be received three times as each frame of the mail file tries to load - Inbox, Calendar and To Do list.  Clicking the OK button each time the message appears allows the Notes client to eventually open.

To resolve the issue, the following should be verified or done:

If the error message continues to appear when launching Notes after trying the above, contact Technical Support Operations for further assistance.

The location document is critical to Lotus Notes launching and functioning properly.   If using an invalid or incorrect location document, error messages may be received or Notes may not function.

A mail file for the specific location being used must also be present on the workspace in order for the Welcome Page to load properly.  When using the Office location, the mail file on the server will load and when using the Island location, the local mail file will load.  If the file associated with the location used is no longer on the workspace or if the bookmark link has become corrupt, the error message will be received.

After Notes has launched and the error message has been cleared, check the current location by looking in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.  If something other than Office or Island appears such as Home, Internet or Travel, the current location should be changed.  To change the current location:

  1. Select File from the menu bar.

  2. Select Mobile from the drop down menu and select Choose Current Location... from the next drop down menu.

  3. If connected to the network, single click on Office (Network).   If working offline, single click on Island (Disconnected).

    • NOTE:   If connected to the network and using the Office (Network) location, verify that the document has the mail file listed with the complete hierarchical name.  If it is not, errors can occur.  For information on how to verify that the Office (Network) location document has the complete hierarchical server name listed, click here.

  4. Click OK.

The correct location has now been selected.

After the location has been selected, confirm that the appropriate mail file for the location chosen is on the workspace.  For information on how to confirm the mail file is on the workspace, click here.
