ERROR: Connection denied. The server.../You requested connection to (Servername)...

The following Lotus Notes error messages occur because an incorrect mail server is specified in the Office (Network) location document or there are hidden characters which cause the documents to be read incorrectly by Lotus Notes.

To resolve either error message, you need to change the home/mail server in the Office (Network) location document.

If changing the home/mail server in the Office (Network) location document does not resolve either error, you will need to delete the current location documents in your Personal Address Book and recreate them.

To change the Home/mail server: field in the Office (Location) document:

  1. Select File from the menu bar.

  2. Select Mobile from the drop down menu and select Locations... from the next drop down menu.

  3. Open the Office location document by double clicking on Office (Network).

  4. Click the Edit Location button.

  5. Delete the server listed in the Home/mail server: field. Type the exact name of your mail server in that same field. 

    If you copied the name of your mail server from your person document in the PeopleSoft Directory , select Edit from the menu bar and Paste from the drop down menu to paste the exact server name in the field.

  6. Click OK and then click Save and Close to save your changes.

The server name has now been changed.

If changing the home/mail server in the Office (Network) location document does not resolve either error, you will need to delete the current location documents in your Personal Address Book and recreate them.

To find the name of your home/mail server:

  1. Open the PeopleSoft Directory (formerly known as the PS Names & Address Book) by double clicking the icon.

  2. Click the People view.

  3. Type your last name so the Quick Search pop up window appears and click OK so that your name can be found.

  4. Click on your name to open your Person document.

  5. Your home/mail server name can be found in the Mail server: field in the Mail section of the document.

You may want to copy your mail server name from this document if it needs to be changed in the Office (Network) location document.  To copy your mail server name:

  1. Highlight the entire mail server name by dragging your cursor over it while holding the left mouse button down.

  2. Select Edit from the menu bar.

  3. Select Copy from the drop down menu.

Your mail server name is now on the clipboard and can be pasted into the Office (Network) location document if needed.  For information on how to change the home/mail server in the Office (Network) location document, click here.

To delete the locations in your Personal Address Book:

  1. Open the Personal Address Book by double clicking the icon.

  2. Select View from the menu bar.

  3. Select Advanced from the drop down menu and select Locations from the next drop down menu.

  4. Open and print any of the location documents which you need.

    • At PeopleSoft, the locations used are Office (Network) and Island. Be sure to print these documents as well as any you've created on your own.
  5. Once you have printed the location documents, click to the left of all of the locations so that a check mark appears.

  6. Click Delete Location.

The location documents have been deleted.

You now need to recreate the Office (Network) and Island location documents as well as any that you had previously created.

To  create the Office (Network) location document:

  1. Open the Personal Address Book by double clicking the icon.

  2. Select View from the menu bar.

  3. Select Advanced from the drop down menu and select Locations from the next drop down menu.

  4. Click the Add Location button to create a new location.

  5. Type Office (Network) in the Location name: field.

  6. Click on the down arrow in the Location type: field and select Local Area Network.

  7. Leave the Home/mail server:, Mail file location:, and Mail file: fields as they've defaulted.

  8. If a server is showing in the Passthru server: field, delete it by highlighting the server name and clicking on the Delete key.

  9. Click on the down arrow next in the Recipient name type-ahead: field and select Personal then Public Address Book so that when you're addressing a memo it will search both your Personal Address Book and the PeopleSoft Directory (formerly known as the PS Names & Address Book).

  10. Modify any other fields so that the new location document looks like the printout.

  11. Click on the Save and Close button so your changes are saved

The Office (Network) location document has been recreated. The changes will take effect once you close out of Lotus Notes and relaunch it.

To create the Island (Disconnected) location document:

  1. Open the Personal Address Book by double clicking the icon.

  2. Select View from the menu bar.

  3. Select Advanced from the drop down menu and select Locations from the next drop down menu.

  4. Click the Add Location button to create a new location.

  5. Type Island (Disconnected) in the Location name: field.

  6. Click the down arrow in the Location type: field and select No connection.

  7. In the Mail file: field, type the file name of your local mail file.

  8. Leave Personal Address Book Only in the Recipient name type-ahead: field so it does not search for a server while you are disconnected.

  9. Click the Save and Close button so your changes are saved.

The Island (Disconnected) location document has been recreated. The changes will take effect once you close out of Lotus Notes and relaunch it.
