The Lotus Notes error message "You cannot access portions of this document because it is encrypted and was not intended for you" typically means that a user's public key must be updated in the PeopleSoft Directory. To request the public key to be updated, a NorthStar ticket must be submitted.

Requesting the public key to be updated

Note: If the user's name was not listed in the To:, cc: or bcc: fields as an original recipient of an encrypted mail message, they will not be able to read it. Encryption only allows the original recipients to decrypt a message so it can be read. Therefore, if an encrypted message was forwarded to someone else, the error message will be received and nothing can be done so that it can be read.

To submit a request for the public key to be recertified:

1. Open NorthStar (http://northstar.peoplesoft.com).

2. Click the Log Service Ticket link in the Submit Tickets section in the left hand navigation panel.
   

3. Click the Lotus Notes radio button and click Next>.
   
   
4. Click the down arrow next to What type of problem are your having? and select Another problem not listed above from the drop down list.
   
   

5. Subject: Type Receiving error message when trying to read mail.

6. Description: Type Receiving error message "You cannot access portions of this document because it is encrypted and was not intended for you."
• The error message should be typed exactly as it appears.
• Include additional information, if applicable.
  
  
7. Click the Finish button.

The request to begin the process of updating the public key has been done. The user will be contacted for additional follow up that must be done prior to the issue being resolved.
