ERROR: Compile error in hidden module: modAppGlobals

Document number: 25023

If you getting the Microsoft Visual Basic error message Compile error in hidden module: modAppGlobals when launching and exiting Microsoft Excel 97, you have a conflict between Windows NT 4 Service Pack 5 files and a Date Wizard file for Excel. For instructions on finding out what Windows NT Service Pack you have installed, see Eureka! document 69035 — How to find out what Windows NT Service Pack is loaded . You may still use or close down Excel normally once you click past the errors.

To solve this, go to the Software Library and implement the software fix button:

  1. Close all applications (especially Excel) except Lotus Notes.

  2. Open the Software Library in   Lotus Notes by clicking its bookmark link.

  3. Click the Standard Software Package Installs icon.

  4. Click By Package Name.  This view will probably already be showing as it is the default view.

  5. Scroll until you see the entry Microsoft Office All Versions and double click on it to open it.

  6. Scroll down to the button labeled Removal of old Excel Y2K Date Migration Tools. (It is below the Office 97 Patches button.) Don't close the Software Library page.

    • Wait about 20-30 seconds (longer, if trying this over RAS). WinInstall will run.

  7. Now click on the Installation of New Excel Y2K Date Migration Tools button (it is right next to the button you clicked in the last step.)

    • Wait about 20-30 seconds (longer, if trying this over RAS). WinInstall will run.

  8. When the installation is complete, it will ask you if you want to reboot the machine. Click Yes.

  9. If you chose not to reboot the machine right away, now close down all open applications and reboot your machine.

The error should no longer appear when you launch or close Excel.
