ERROR: Field is greater than 15K - cannot send message
If the error message Field is greater than 15K, cannot send message displays while sending a mail message in Lotus Notes, you may have tried to send a mail message to individual names of a large group instead of using the alias for the group.
If the alias is not used, Notes expands the To: field of your memo, listing each member of the group field individually. For groups with more than approximately 20 members, this will be larger than the field's 15K limit.
Groups that have many members have aliases. Using the alias for a group prevents the group from expanding to a list of each of the members when the message is sent. Using aliases for groups also saves a lot of paper and time, as the list of every name does not print out and the recipient does not have to scroll through all of the names to read your message.
To resolve this, replace the group name with the alias for the group name. If you do not know the alias for the group name, follow the steps in one of these two options:
Click on the PeopleSoft Directory icon to open the database.
Click on the View option of the menu bar and select Gr oups.
Locate the group to which you want to send the message.
Open the group document by double-clicking the group name.
Under Basics:, the first category will read Group Name: and the alias will be listed to the right.
- OR -
From the mail message you are trying to compose, click on the Address... button.
Select PeopleSoft Directory from the drop-down list in the upper left box.
Select the group name from the list in the lower left box. You can do this by scrolling through the list or typing the full or partial group name.
Click on the Open... button. The group document will open and you can review the members of the group and also see the aliases for the group. After you have reviewed the group, click on the Close button.
To add this group of people to your list of recipients, click on the To: button in the middle of the Mail Address screen, then click on OK.
You should no longer encounter the error message.
