How to change proxy settings in Internet Explorer

Document number: 19059

If Internet Explorer hangs or slows with the message similar to "detecting proxy settings" you may be able to resolve the problem by changing IE's proxy settings.

You can do this with Internet Explorer, but it is more consistent to do it from Control Panel.

  1. Click on Start.

  2. Select Settings, select Control Panel.

  3. Double-click the Internet Options icon.

  4. The Internet Properties window will open.

  5. Click on the Connections tab.

  6. Click on the LAN Settings ... button.

  7. A Local Area Network (LAN) Setting window will open.

  8. Uncheck " Automatically detect proxy settings."

  9. Click OK to close the LAN Settings Window.

  10. Click OK to close the Internet Properties window.

Unchecking the automatically detect proxy settings box should allow web pages to load normally.
