Internet Explorer links do not open: About:Blank window, no window or window is tiny

If when you click on a link either nothing happens, or you get a blank new window or you will see "About:blank" in the task bar.

1. Check the size and placement of the window.

The default behavior for Internet Explorer is to open at the same size it was at the last time it was closed. It can range in size anywhere from that of a postage stamp to almost filling the screen. If it opens as a little tiny window you may not see it even though you can see it in the task bar.

If you can see the IE icon and "About: blank" on the task bar but you can't see the open window try the following:

Close all open windows and applications except one Internet Explorer window with the problem.

If you don't close all the other Internet Explorer windows then you are wasting your time taking the steps below. Any windows you leave open will affect the final result.
Press F11 to see if the window will maximize. If it does you will need to move or resize it manually to keep the window size you want. Press F11 again to close the maximized window.
To resize the window and make Internet Explorer open new windows in that size:

Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Hold down the { Ctrl} key and click the X on the upper right corner to close.
Visit another web site. Right click on a link and select Open in new window.
The new window should now be the desired size.

If you don't see the window check if it is merely off screen:

Right click the icon in the Taskbar.
Select Move
Press the left arrow key.
Move your mouse around, up, down, back and forth to see if you can bring the window into view.
Hold down the Ctrl key and click the Close button (upper right)
Visit another web site. Right click on a link and select Open in new window.
The new window should open on screen.

2. If your window is normal sized but the title bar says "About:Blank" and the window is empty see Eureka! document 29060 — The current operation could not be completed because an unexpected error has occurred.
