The type-ahead feature in Lotus Notes
The type-ahead feature in Lotus Notes allows for quick name resolution when addressing a message so an entire name does not need to be entered. As a name is entered into the To:, cc: or bcc: field, Notes will try to match the name based on the letters that have already been typed. The type-ahead search can be sped up by partially typing enough uniqueness of a name and then by adding a comma at some point during the typing.
The type-ahead feature is automatically enabled when Notes is set up. It will search first on a user's Personal Address Book and then look in the PeopleSoft Directory. It should stop after the first name matched for the letters typed. If it does not, this option should be enabled. The type-ahead feature can also be disabled if a user prefers to have to enter the entire name being addressed.
Disabling the type-ahead feature.
Enabling the type-ahead feature.
NOTE: On occasion, when using the type-ahead feature, special characters will appear instead of the recipient's name. This is a known issue with Lotus Development and does not happen with all names. To resolve this issue, the recipient's full name must be typed in the To:, cc: or bcc: field.
If a user would prefer to enter all addressees' entire names, the type-ahead feature can be disabled.
To disable the type-ahead feature:
Select File from the menu bar.
Select Mobile from the drop list and select Edit Current Location... from the next drop down list.
Click the Mail tab.
Click the down arrow in the 'Recipient name type-ahead: field' and select Disabled from the drop down list.
Click OK.
The type-ahead feature is now disabled and complete names will need to be entered when addressing all messages.

Recipient name type-ahead:
Local Only: Only the Personal Address Book will be searched and names entered there will be resolved. Names in the PeopleSoft Directory would need to be typed completely.
Activate recipient name type-ahead: The default - On Each Character - should be left in this field.
Exhaustively check all address books: The lookup may take a long time as all names in both the Personal Address Book and PeopleSoft Directory will be searched. All names that match the portion of the name entered will appear and the user will need to select who it should be addressed to.
