The default font size (10) in Lotus Notes may be increased up to 25 points. In order to change the size of the font, the default font must still be used and cannot have been changed in user preferences to another font. To change the font size, a line must be added to the notes.ini file.

For information on how to change the default font in Lotus Notes, see Eureka! document 16129 — How to change the default font in Lotus Notes. Depending on which new font is selected, however, the font size may not be able to be increased.

To modify the font size in Lotus Notes:

1. Exit Lotus Notes completely as it must be closed when modifying the notes.ini file.

2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the c:\winnt directory.

3. Scroll to the notes.ini file and double click to open it.

• Note: If the notes.ini file cannot be found in the c:\winnt directory, contact Technical Support Operations for assistance in locating and moving it to c:\winnt.

4. Scroll to the bottom of the notes.ini file type the following a few lines above the last line (entering it on the last line will not work):

Display_font_adjustment=x

where x is the number of points added to the default font size. It can be between 0 and 25, but no greater than 25.

Example: If the font size should be increased 5 points, the line Display_font_adjustment=5 should be added as a line of the notes.ini file (but not the last line).

5. Select F ile from the menu bar and select E xit from the drop down menu to close the notes.ini file.

6. A pop up window that says, "The text in the C:\WINNT\notes.ini file has changed. Do you want to save the changes?" will appear. Click Y es to save the change.

The next time Lotus Notes is launched, the font size should be increased by the number of points listed in the line added to the notes.ini file.

Warning: It is imperative that no other lines are modified or removed from the notes.ini file. If the file is modified other than referenced above, it could cause the Lotus Notes client not to function or launch anymore.
