How to get your Connected software account number and encryption key

Document number: 15222

If you have an existing Connected software account that you want to be able to reestablish after a rebuild or transfer to a new machine, you will need your account number and your encryption key. If you still have the machine available from which you wish to transfer the backup account, follow the steps below to find and preserve that information. If you do not have the machine available, you may contact Technical Support Operations and they can help you find out that information. When you see this icon below, click on it to see a screen shot or graphic.

  1. On the Start menu, select Programs, then Connected, then Connected TLM or Connected DataProtector, whichever is appropriate. The Connected software Home page appears. The Home page displays the backup account number.

  2. Copy down your Backup Account number from the Connected software Home page.

  3. On the Options menu, select Security... Click for screen shot

  4. Click on the View Encryption Key button Click for screen shot, and then select Print to print a copy of the account information to a printer of your choice. Click for screen shot
    • If you print the encryption key, the account number will be included on the printout.
    • You may also take a screenshot, paste or attach it into an email, and save the email as a draft (so you won't run into a problem with the 180-day mail retention process). Saving the encryption key as an image is more secure than cutting and pasting the encryption key text into the email. You will use the encryption key to reestablish your account.
    • Also, be sure to note the personal password for your account, if you have one.

You now have preserved the information you will need to reestablish your account after a rebuild or machine change.
