The difficulty you are experiencing is that when you insert a table into your PowerPoint 2000 presentation, the lines of your table look like arrows, somewhat like this:

To solve this, follow the instructions in the Microsoft Knowledge Base "Q" Article number Q248236: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q248236.

Note: If you do not see the Draw menu mentioned in the Q article, click on the View menu, then on Toolbars and then make sure a checkmark appears next to Drawing. The Draw menu is usually located at the bottom left-hand corner of your PowerPoint screen when you are editing a slide. Click on the down arrow next to the word "Draw" to see the menu choices.
