Default directory for Microsoft Word 97 documents

Document number: 15118

The default file directory for retrieving and storing your Microsoft Word 97 documents is c:\User\Winword. Whenever you open or save a document, this is the directory in which Microsoft Word 97 will look first.

You may change the default directory if you wish. However, be aware that PeopleSoft occasionally puts templates or other shared files into the default directory for general use by PeoplePeople.

To change the default directory to another one, follow these steps:

  1. Open a document.

  2. Click on the T ools menu and then on O ptions...

  3. Click on the File Locations tab.

  4. In the F ile types: box, click on Documents to highlight it. Then click on the M odify... button.

  5. The Modify Location box appears. Navigate through your hard drive (or network drives) and choose a default drive and directory.

    • Make sure the directory you choose already exists.

    • If you specify a network drive as your default directory and the network is unavailable when you try to open a document in Microsoft Word 97, Word 97 will look on your local drive for files. You can navigate to a directory from there.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click OK to close the Options screen.

Your default drive and directory for opening and saving files is changed.
