How to use context sensitive SmartIcons in Lotus Notes

Document number: 13005

SmartIcons provide shortcuts for performing various Lotus Notes tasks with a single click of the mouse button. When you first install Notes, it displays a default set of SmartIcons for the most common functions. Notes comes with over 100 predefined SmartIcons plus more than a dozen that you can customize to suit your needs. If you are unsure about what a SmartIcon does, position your cursor over the SmartIcon and a brief description of the SmartIcon will appear in a bubble next to the SmartIcon.

SmartIcons change depending on what functions you are performing in Lotus Notes. For example, one set of icons displays when you read a document, while another set displays when you edit a document. You can change the settings for the SmartIcons so that they are not context sensitive and remain static.

To hide or display context SmartIcons:

  1. Click on File in  the menu bar, select Pre ferences, then select SmartIcon Settings....

  2. In the right column under Show:, select or deselect  Icon Bar and Context Icons.

  3. Select Desc ription to display a pop-up description of what a particular icon does when you point to the icon with your mouse.

  4. Click OK to save your changes.
