Discussion Threads in Lotus Notes

Document number: 12026

The Discussion Threads view in the Lotus Notes mail file contains all documents in the mail file whether they appear in the Inbox or have been moved to folders. This view stores all messages grouped with their replies so you can view an entire conversation at once. You will see the original document displayed against the left margin of the Subject column and all response documents indented below it. If a document does not have responses, you will not see any documents appear indented below it. It will be displayed like a document in any other view or folder.

Just like the All Documents view, the Discussion Threads view contains a copy of every document in your mail file. Documents found in either of these views do not increase the size of the mail file as they are not duplicate messages. The views are just another way to see the contents of the mail file.

It is advised that you do not delete documents from the Discussion Threads view. When documents are deleted from this view as well as the All Documents view, they are deleted from all folders which they have been moved to including the Inbox. Once documents are deleted, they cannot be retrieved or restored per the No Mail Restore policy. See Eureka! document 12073 — Mail retention and quota policy for Lotus Notes for additional information.

As a reminder, all new mail arrives in the Inbox at the bottom of the message list. To change the sort order, see Eureka! document 16158 — How to sort mail by sender, date, size or subject in Lotus Notes.
