How to launch Sametime Connect

The current version of Sametime Connect is 3.1 and you can set it up to launch in different ways:

Automatically when computer boots up, but Sametime user name and password still need to be entered (secure)

Automatically when computer boots up, but Sametime user name and password do not need to be entered as they have been stored (less secure)

Manually (secure)

You can disable the automatic launch feature.

Note: Connecting to AOL Instant Messenger from Sametime is not supported and is also a security risk.

 

 

 

 


Setting up Sametime to launch automatically is very convenient. It is more secure to have Sametime prompt you for your username and password. Otherwise, anyone who logs onto your computer can access the Sametime application on your computer as you.

To set up Sametime to launch automatically when the computer boots up and prompt you for your Sametime username and password:

When you restart the computer, Sametime Connect starts automatically. Enter your password when prompted.

Launching Sametime manually gives you complete control to have it open only when you want to launch it. Launching Sametime manually without storing your password is also secure.

If you do not want Sametime to launch automatically, you can disable it.

To disable the automatic launch feature for Sametime:

Note: If Sametime continues to launch when you restart your computer after completing the steps listed above, remove it from the Windows Startup folder.

If Sametime continues to launch automatically after you disable the automatic launch feature, remove it from the Windows Startup folder.

To remove Sametime from the Windows Startup folder:

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  2. Navigate to c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

  3. Right mouse click on the Sametime Connect icon.

  4. Select Delete from the drop down menu.

  5. A pop-up window appears asking " Are you sure you want to send 'Sametime Connect' to the Recycle Bin?". Click Yes.

Sametime Connect has been removed from the Windows Startup folder and should no longer automatically launch when the computer is restarted.
