Who: All IT Help Desk Technicians

Why: Some users are receiving errors when running Active X controls in Outlook.

Some users are receiving errors when running Active X controls in Outlook, such as the JDE System "Launch Application" button to view CSMS Requests.

If the problem is in regards to the "Launch Application" button in email from JDE_System, make sure the user has opened the email first. The button does not work when the email is viewed in the preview pane.

To view the Active content correctly:

  1. In Outlook, open the email that contains the link that is not working properly.

  2. On the menu for that message select File, then Save As.

  3. Select Desktop from the left pane of the Save As dialogue box.

  4. In the File name field, enter a unique, descriptive file name.

  5. Verify that the Save as type field is HTML (*.htm).

  6. Click Save.

  7. Minimize all your windows so you can see the desktop.

  8. Find the filename you selected and double-click on it.

  9. Your email message should be displayed as a web page now, and the Launch Application button should now work properly.

Note: If this solution does not work, verify that the security settings for I.E. are set to Medium for the Trusted Sites zone.
