C1 Wildcard Searches
PeopleSoft applications support three wildcard features when searching for data in character fields. These wildcards can help you find the exact information you want to process. The following are the supported standard wildcard features.
You can use the % wildcard on a field if you are not sure of an exact spelling or value of a record. For example, "U.S. Steel" could be "U.S. Steel" or "US Steel". Input "U%S%Steel" and you'll be more likely to find the Company. Always look for existing companies to help maintain good company listings.
If you do not use the wildcard (%) the system still usually returns the rows starting with the letters you entered. The difference is that if there is an exact match, without the wildcard the system opens that record, but with the wildcard it shows the record and all the records that have the search criteria starting with the entered letters.
Specifying Smith in the Last Name field and J%D in the First Name field returns a list of contacts whose last name is Smith and whose first name begins with a J and contains a D.
