Tips on sending Internet mail in Lotus Notes

Document number: 10094

When sending Internet mail in Lotus Notes, please keep the following in mind:

Internet mail format should always be set to HTML and Plain Text:

The default setting for Internet mail format is HTML and Plain Text and should never be changed. If it is changed, the recipient of the Internet message may have difficulty reading the message. By changing the setting, the message is typically converted to HTML along with all of the HTML tags and coding which makes it nearly impossible to read.

To verify that the Internet mail format is set correctly:

  1. Select File from the menu bar.

  2. Select Preferences from the drop down menu and select User Preferences... from the next drop down menu.

  3. Click the Mail and News button on the left side of the User Preferences window.

  4. Verify that the Internet mail format option is set to HTML and Plain Text.

  5. If the Internet mail format is not set to HTML and Plain Text, click the down arrow to the right of the current setting and select HTML and Plain Text from the drop down menu.

  6. Click OK.

The format is properly set.

Encryption does not work on Internet mail:

If an Internet message is encrypted prior to being sent, you receive a Mail Encryption Failure notice since Internet certificates are not used at PeopleSoft. The notice lists the recipients of the message who will receive an unencrypted copy of the message.

To send the message, click OK to Send.

To cancel sending the message, click Cancel Sending.

Digital signatures are not supported on Internet mail:

If an Internet message is sent with a digital signature (it is "signed"), the notice "You have requested to sign this Internet message, but your current ID does not contain an Internet certificate. Select OK to send the message anyway. Select Cancel to not send the message." appears because Internet certificates are not used at PeopleSoft.
