How to attach a file to a Lotus Notes document

Document number: 10074

Attaching files to Lotus Notes documents is a very convenient way to distribute files or make them available to many users. Virtually any type of file (including a Notes database) can be attached to the text field of a Lotus Notes document or mail memo. An attachment is a copy of the original document.

You must have at least Editor access to a database in order to create attachments.

To create an attachment in a Lotus Notes document:

  1. Open the document you want to create the attachment in, or click New Memo if you are creating an attachment in a mail message.

  2. Place the cursor in the text field (the area of the document in which you type the text).

  3. Select File from the menu bar and select Attach... (or click on the paperclip SmartIcon).

  4. Find the file you want to attach and highlight it by single clicking on it.

  5. Click on the C reate button.

  6. Once you are done editing a document, select File from the menu bar and select Close from the drop down menu. If you've created the attachment in a mail message, you can click Send once you're done writing it.

Note:  Please do not email large files as it often results in a Delivery Failure. External email is limited to 10MB. Please zip all large files prior to sending via regular email. For information about zipping files, see Eureka! document 15095 — How to zip files using PKZip.
